Electric scooter: Police teach international students traffic rules
From July this year, people over 16 years old can use electric scooters without a driver’s license.
The maximum speed and size of available electric scooters are determined.
On the 25th, the Metropolitan Police Department held a meeting to teach international students about traffic rules.
Approximately 30 international students attending a Japanese language school in Toshima Ward, Tokyo participated.
First, a police officer used a piece of paper written in a foreign language to explain the rules for electric scooters, such as riding on the left side of the road and road signs.
Afterwards, the international students got on electric scooters and practiced how to change speed and turn.
A Chinese woman said, ``Japan’s traffic rules are stricter than China’s, but I definitely want to follow them for safety.’’
