Construction work at Henoko in Okinawa Prefecture approved by the national government on behalf of the prefecture
The Ministry of Defense is conducting construction work to fill the sea in order to move the U.S. military’s Futenma base to Henoko, Okinawa Prefecture.
However, the prefecture elected a governor who was against the move to Henoko.
The prefecture is opposed to the construction.
In December, the court ordered the prefecture to approve the newly required construction work.
However, the prefecture did not approve
If the prefecture does not approve, the law allows construction to be carried out if the national government approves instead.

The Ministry of Defense is preparing to begin the necessary construction work from mid-January.
However, construction cannot be stopped until the prefecture wins in court.
