New York and Singapore top this year’s list of cities with the highest cost of living

In the 2022 edition of the world’s cost of living ranking announced by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), a research division of the British magazine The Economist, New York and Singapore are at the top.
The EIU surveyed the prices of more than 200 goods and services in 172 cities around the world this year.
In particular, the price of oil in urban areas has continued to rise since last year, and the prices of food, utilities, and daily necessities have risen across the board.
Singapore has taken the top spot many times, but this is the first time New York has taken the top spot.

Within the United States, Los Angeles ranked fourth with Hong Kong, and San Francisco ranked eighth.
Last year’s top city, Tel Aviv, Israel fell to third place.
From Europe, Switzerland’s Zurich (6th), Geneva (7th), Paris (9th), and Denmark’s Copenhagen (10th) are in the top 10.
In Western Europe, gasoline prices have risen by 22% due to the war in Ukraine.
