Trial on Transgender Persons` Freedom to Use Womens` Restrooms

経済産業省けいざいさんぎょうしょうで働はたらいているトランスジェンダーの人ひとは、仕事しごとをしている部屋へやの近ちかくの女性じょせいトイレを使つかわないように言いわれていました

A transgender person working for the Ministry of Economy was recently told that she is not permitted to use the womens` restrooms nearby her office.

この人ひとは、戸籍こせきでは男性だんせいですが、自分じぶんは女性じょせいだと考かんがえています

While said person is legally considered to be male, she identifies herself as a woman.

そして、トイレを自由じゆうに使つかうことができるようにしてほしいと言いって、国くにを訴うったえていました

Seeking freedom to use the restroom in which she feels most comfortable, the woman has filed a lawsuit with the Supreme Court.

11日にちの裁判さいばんで、最高裁判所さいこうさいばんしょは「国くにの考かんがえ方かたは間違まちがっています

Of the 11-day trial, the Supreme Court has stated: This nation`s way of thinking is flawed.

この人ひとは毎日まいにち、不便ふべんな生活せいかつをしなければなりません

Every day of her life, this person faces inconvenience.

国くには、女性じょせいトイレを使つかうほかの人ひとのことを考かんがえすぎて、この人ひとが困こまっていることを考かんがえていません」と言いいました

This nation thinks too much about who may be using the womens` restrooms, and not enough about this person`s daily struggle.

トランスジェンダーなど「性的せいてきマイノリティー」の人ひとの働はたらき方かたについて、最高裁判所さいこうさいばんしょが判決はんけつを出だしたのは初はじめてです

This is the first case so far to be covered by the Supreme Court regarding the working conditions of transgender individuals and similar sexual minorities.

この判決はんけつで、ほかの役所やくしょや会社かいしゃも、性的せいてきマイノリティーの人ひとが働はたらきやすくなるようにもっと考かんがえていくことになります

With this case, hopefully a conversation will begin throughout government offices and private businesses alike, and with it working conditions for individuals belonging to the sexual minority will become easier.

A transgender person working for the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry was told not to use the women’s restroom near the room where she worked.

この人ひとは、戸籍こせきでは男性だんせいですが、自分じぶんは女性じょせいだと考かんがえています

This person is registered as a man, but he thinks he is a woman.

そして、トイレを自由じゆうに使つかうことができるようにしてほしいと言いって、国くにを訴うったえていました

And he was suing the country, saying that he wanted to be able to use the toilet freely.

In the trial on the 11th, the Supreme Court ruled, ``The country’s thinking is wrong.

This person has to live an inconvenient life every day.

国くには、女性じょせいトイレを使つかうほかの人ひとのことを考かんがえすぎて、この人ひとが困こまっていることを考かんがえていません」と言いいました

The state thinks too much about other people who use the women’s restroom, not about the trouble this person is in.”

It’s the first time the Supreme Court has issued a ruling on how transgender and other ’sexual minorities’ work.

この判決はんけつで、ほかの役所やくしょや会社かいしゃも、性的せいてきマイノリティーの人ひとが働はたらきやすくなるようにもっと考かんがえていくことになります

With this ruling, other government offices and companies will also think more about making it easier for people of sexual minorities to work.
