There have been a number of incidents in which international parcels caught fire in Europe, and investigative authorities are investigating the possibility that Russia may be involved.
In July, a parcel caught fire at a warehouse belonging to logistics giant DHL in Birmingham, central England.
The fire was extinguished by the fire brigade and there were no injuries.
Additionally, there was an incident where a package caught fire at a DHL warehouse in Leipzig, Germany.
Germany’s Tagess Spiegel newspaper reports that the cargo plane loading the cargo was delayed, and that a fire broke out inside the plane when it took off as scheduled.
The head of Germany’s intelligence agency made a sarcastic comment, saying, ``If there had been an explosion inside the plane, there might have been a crash that would have directly hit people who sympathize with the Putin regime.’’
In response to the incident, on the 8th of this month, the head of the British MI5 intelligence agency pointed out that ``Russian intelligence agencies are carrying out a sustained mission to cause chaos in the United Kingdom and Europe.’’
In addition, the London Metropolitan Police revealed in an interview with ANN that its counter-terrorism division is investigating links to similar incidents while liaising with investigative agencies in Europe.
DHL commented, ”We are taking steps to protect our network, staff, assets, and customer shipments following ongoing investigations by multiple countries.”
