Former Olympic board member arrested, suspected of illegally receiving money
The Tokyo District Public Prosecutor’s Office arrested Haruyuki Takahashi, who was a director of the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Organizing Committee on the 17th.
Takahashi is suspected of receiving 51 million yen illegally from the former chairman of AOKI Holdings, which was the sponsor of the tournament.
The public prosecutor’s office also arrested three people, including former chairman Hironori Aoki, on suspicion of handing over money.
According to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, before the tournament, Takahashi was told by Aoki and others, ”I want you to be selected as a sponsor.”
Takahashi made a contract with his company to give job advice to another company of Aoki.
The public prosecutor’s office believes that the money was fraudulently received from October 2017 to March this year, saying it was money for advice, and is investigating.
