ヴァージン・ギャラクティック社の宇宙船「マザーシップ・イブ」に搭乗した一般乗客は、イギリスの元オリンピック選手でパーキンソン病を患っている80歳の男性とカリブ海のアンティグア出身の親子3人です。
10日、アメリカ・ニューメキシコ州の宇宙基地を出発した宇宙船は、高度約88キロの宇宙空間まで到達しました。
その後、数分間、無重力を体験して出発から1時間後、宇宙基地に着陸しました。
乗客らは「一番印象的だったのは宇宙から地球を見たことで、透き通るように透明でとても感動した」と感想を述べました。
ヴァージン・ギャラクティック社は9月に再び、商業宇宙旅行を行う予定です。
