The Shepherd Boy and The Wolf
ある村に、ヒツジ飼いの男の子がいました。
There was a shepherd boy living in a village.
来る日も来る日も、仕事はヒツジの番ばかり。
He tended his sheeps day by day.
男の子はあきあきしてしまい、ちょっといたずらをしたくなりました。
He felt very boring and he wanted to have fun.
そこで男の子は、とつぜん大声をあげました。
So he cried aloud
「たいへんだ！　オオカミだ。オオカミだ」
"Wolf, Wolf. The wolf is carrying away a lamb".
村人がおどろいて、かけつけてきました。
Farmers working in the fields were very surprised and started running.
それを見て、男の子は大笑い。
Seeing that, the boy laughed loudly.
何日かして、男の子はまた大声をあげました。
A few days later, the boy cried aloud again.
「たいへんだ！　オオカミだ。オオカミだ」
"Wolf, Wolf. The wolf is carrying away a lamb".
村人は、こんども飛び出してきました。
The villagers rushed over again.
男の子はそれを見て、またもや大笑い。
Seeing that, the boy laughed loudly one more time.
ところがある日、本当にオオカミがやってきて、ヒツジの群をおそいました。
But, one day, a real wolf came, then carried out his sheeps.
男の子はあわてて、叫び声をあげました。
The boy was very afraid, he screamed loudly.
「オオカミが来た！　オオカミが来た！
"The wolf came. The wolf came.
本当にオオカミが来たんだよ！」
The wolf really came！"
けれども村人は、知らんぷりです。
But the villagers pretended not to know.
なんどもうそをいう男の子を、だれも信じようとはしなかったのです。
Now matter how loud the boy screamed, nobody trusted him anymore.
かわいそうに、男の子のヒツジは、オオカミにみんな食べられてしまいました。
And it was a pity that all his sheeps were eaten by the wolf.
