On the morning of the 31st, a train and a small car collided at a railroad crossing in Nichinan City, Miyazaki Prefecture, and the 66-year-old man who was driving the car died.
警察によりますと、31日午前10時前、宮崎県日南市のJR日南線の踏切で1両編成の普通列車と軽乗用車が衝突しました。
According to the police, just before 10 a.m. on the 31st, a one-car local train and a small passenger vehicle collided at a railroad crossing on the JR Nichinan Line in Nichinan City, Miyazaki Prefecture.
この事故で車を運転していた市内に住む田中直樹さん（66）が病院に搬送されましたが、およそ2時間後に死亡が確認されました。
Mr. Naoki Tanaka 66, a resident of the city who was driving the car, was taken to the hospital after the accident, but was pronounced dead about two hours later.
ほかに軽乗用車に乗っていた人はおらず、列車の運転士と乗客7人にけがはありませんでした。
There was no one else in the light passenger car, and neither the train driver nor the seven passengers were injured.
JR九州によりますと、列車の運転士は「線路内に車を見つけて非常ブレーキをかけたが間に合わずに衝突した」などと話しているということです。
According to JR Kyushu, the train driver said, I spotted a car on the tracks and applied the emergency brake, but it was too late and a collision occurred.
現場は日南線の飫肥駅と日南駅の間の踏切で、警報機はありますが遮断機はなく、警察が事故の詳しい状況を調べています。
The scene is a railway crossing between Obi Station and Nichinan Station on the Nichinan Line. There is a warning alarm but no crossing gate, and the police are investigating the details of the accident.
「ドカーンという音」
事故があった踏切の近くに住む女性は「いつも列車の警笛は『ホワン』と鳴るくらいなのに、今回はずっと鳴り続けてその途中に『ドカーン』という音がしてびっくりしました」と話していました。
The woman who lives near the railroad crossing where the accident occurred said, Usually, the train whistle just goes whoan, but this time it kept sounding continuously, and in the middle of that there was a loud bang, which really surprised me.
第3種踏切で死亡事故 運輸安全委が原因調査へ
国の運輸安全委員会は調査官2人を現地に派遣することを決めました。
