In July, after a South Korean military transport aircraft entered Japans air defense identification zone and prompted a scramble by Japans Self-Defense Forces, the South Korean Ministry of National Defense disciplined more than 10 personnel, citing problems with how they sought cooperation from the Japanese side during the emergency landing process at the U.S. Kadena Air Base in Okinawa.
7月13日、韓国軍の輸送機1機が日本の防空識別圏に入り、自衛隊機が緊急発進して対応にあたりました。
On July 13, a South Korean military transport plane entered Japans air defense identification zone, prompting a scramble by Self-Defense Force aircraft to respond.
韓国軍によりますと、この輸送機は、訓練のためグアムに向かう途中、悪天候で雷雨を回避して飛行するなどしたため燃料が不足し、緊急事態を宣言して沖縄県にあるアメリカ軍嘉手納基地に着陸したということで、国防省が経緯について調査を進めてきました。
According to the South Korean military, the transport aircraft was on its way to Guam for training when it encountered bad weather and had to avoid thunderstorms, which led to a fuel shortage. It declared an emergency and landed at the U.S. Kadena Air Base in Okinawa Prefecture. The Ministry of Defense has been investigating the circumstances.
その結果、嘉手納基地に着陸する過程で、日本側への協力の求め方や指揮系統など、任務遂行に問題があったことが確認できたとして、関係者10人余りを処分したと明らかにしました。
As a result, it was confirmed that there were issues in carrying out the mission, such as the way cooperation was requested from the Japanese side and the chain of command during the process of landing at Kadena Air Base, and it was revealed that more than 10 people involved were disciplined.
韓国メディアは、輸送機のパイロットが緊急事態による事故を防ぐための「予防着陸」を日本側に通知したものの伝わらず、日本の承認を得ないまま防空識別圏に入ったと伝えています。
Korean media reports that although the transport aircraft pilot notified the Japanese side of a precautionary landing to prevent an accident due to an emergency, the message was not conveyed, and the aircraft entered the air defense identification zone without Japans approval.
自衛隊機が緊急発進する事態になったことについて、林官房長官は、遺憾だとして、韓国側に再発防止を申し入れていました。
Regarding the situation where a Self-Defense Force aircraft had to scramble, Chief Cabinet Secretary Hayashi expressed regret and requested the South Korean side to prevent a recurrence.
