The movement to mourn the death of Mr. Pro Baseball Shigeo Nagashima is spreading, and on the night of the 4th, Daisuke Matsuzaka, who was known as the Monster of the Heisei Era, also visited Nagashimas home to pay his respects.
Visiting Mr. Nagashimas home to offer condolences continued throughout the day, mainly with his former players from his time as manager of the professional baseball team, the Giants. Among them was Hideki Matsui, who hurriedly returned from America early in the morning on the 4th and came directly from the airport.
After nightfall, Daisuke Matsuzaka, known as the Monster of the Heisei Era, paid a visit.
Mr. Matsuzaka, while taking on the role of manager for the Japanese national team at the 2004 Athens Olympics, contributed to winning the bronze medal with the feelings of Mr. Nagashima—who, despite being appointed as manager, was unable to lead the team in the actual games due to a stroke—close to his heart.
About an hour and a half later, after paying his respects and speaking to the press, Mr. Matsuzaka said, He had a very gentle expression on his face.

He recalled, During the Athens Olympics, I was constantly told to be an ambassador for baseball, and I fought with those words in my heart.
And as for Mr. Nagashima, I think he is the god of baseball.

I want to remember Mr. Nagashimas words and give back to the baseball world in my own way, he said.
On the 4th, in both professional and college baseball, there was a growing movement to mourn Mr. Nagashimas passing, such as players wearing black armbands during games. On the 5th as well, a memorial signing area will continue to be set up at the Giants farm teams home base in Inagi City, Tokyo.
