In an effort to support the victims of the Noto Peninsula earthquake, Go Nagai, a manga artist from Wajima City, Ishikawa Prefecture, and others held a charity auction and donated over 123 million yen in proceeds to Ishikawa Prefecture.

On the 11th, Go Nagai, known for works such as Mazinger Z and originally from Wajima City, and George Morikawa, known for works such as Hajime no Ippo, visited the Ishikawa Prefectural Office to make a donation.

At the suggestion of Mr. Nagai and others, the Japan Cartoonists Association has been auctioning off 278 original colored shikishi boards drawn by 205 manga artists since April this year, in order to support the victims of the Noto Peninsula earthquake.

It was decided that the proceeds, totaling over 123 million yen, would be donated to Ishikawa Prefecture, and instead of a list of the donation amount, Mr. Nagai and Mr. Morikawa handed Governor Hase a panel printed with all the colored paper messages.

Governor Hase said, I was reminded of how amazing the power of manga is.

I think I can deliver a lot of courage.

He said, I would like to express my gratitude once again.

Mr. Nagai said, Through this project, I was once again reminded that many manga artists are concerned about Noto.

I want the donations to be used to create a new Noto, he said.

278 original shikishi boards up for auction: In a charity auction organized by the Japan Cartoonists Association to support people affected by the Noto Peninsula earthquake, 205 manga artists contributed a total of 278 newly drawn shikishi boards.

The exhibitors include Go Nagai, known for works such as Devilman and Mazinger Z and originally from Wajima City; Tetsuya Chiba, famous for Ashita no Joe; Hajime Isayama, the creator of the globally popular manga Attack on Titan; and Masanori Morita, known for works such as Rokudenashi BLUES, among others.

There were some colored papers with messages to the disaster area written on them, as well as others depicting the scenery of Noto.

The colored paper was put up for sale on an online site in five rounds from April 28th of this year to the 1st of last month, and the highest winning bid was for Hajime Isayamas colored paper at 6,201,000 yen.

In addition, more than 30 other colored papers were sold for over 1 million yen each, and approximately 123.51 million yen collected from this auction was donated to Ishikawa Prefecture.
