It has been learned from sources that Nissan Motors restructuring plan to reduce the number of factories includes two plants in Kanagawa Prefecture, such as the Oppama plant.

Nissan Motor, which is being pressed to restructure its management, plans to cut 20,000 jobs across the group by fiscal 2027 and reduce seven factories worldwide in order to review its excessive production system.

According to people involved, the companys draft plan includes the Oppama Plant in Yokosuka City, Kanagawa Prefecture, and the Shonan Plant of Nissan Shatai, a subsidiary located in Hiratsuka City.

The annual production capacity is approximately 240,000 units at the Oppama plant and about 150,000 units at the Shonan plant, but as Nissan has been facing sluggish sales, the low operating rates of these factories have become an issue.

The company is considering consolidating its bases not only at its two domestic factories and in Argentina and India, which have already been announced, but also in places like Mexico. They aim to implement more aggressive restructuring measures to improve their business performance.
