According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, the seasonal rain front is lingering near Japan, and warm, moist air is flowing in from the south. As a result, the atmosphere from the Tokai region to Kyushu has become extremely unstable since the night of the 23rd, with rain clouds developing locally.

According to radar analysis, approximately 120 millimeters of torrential rain is believed to have fallen in one hour near Koshikijima in Satsumasendai City, Kagoshima Prefecture by 1:40 a.m., and also in one hour near Seki in Seki City, Gifu Prefecture by 4:20 a.m., with record-breaking short-term heavy rain information being issued one after another.

Due to the recent rain, the risk of landslides has increased in Kagoshima Prefecture, and landslide warning information has been issued in some areas.

During this time, rain clouds have developed over areas such as Tokai, Kinki, and Kyushu, and in the one hour up to 5 a.m., there was very heavy rain of 53 millimeters in Mino City, Gifu Prefecture, and heavy rain of 32 millimeters in Uki City, Kumamoto Prefecture.

The front is expected to move northward toward the vicinity of the Korean Peninsula by the 25th, and as warm, humid air continues to flow in, the unstable atmospheric conditions are expected to persist through the 25th.

Heavy rain accompanied by thunder is expected, and there is a risk of very heavy rainfall of up to 50 millimeters per hour in some areas.

The amount of rainfall expected in the 24 hours until the morning of the 25th is 200 millimeters in northern Kyushu and 120 millimeters in the Tokai region, among others.

The Japan Meteorological Agency is urging people to be extremely cautious of landslides, flooding in low-lying areas, and river overflows.
