In Botswana in southern Africa, one of the world’s leading diamond producing countries, a rough diamond believed to be the second largest in history, weighing over 2,000 carats, has been found.

カナダにあるダイヤモンドの採掘さいくつ会社かいしゃ「ルカラ」は、21日にち、ボツワナの鉱山こうざんで巨大きょだいなダイヤモンドの原石げんせきを発見はっけんしたと発表はっぴょうしました

Lucara, a Canadian diamond mining company, announced on the 21st that it has discovered a huge diamond in the rough at a mine in Botswana.

見みつかったダイヤモンドは2492カラットで、会社かいしゃが公開こうかいした写真しゃしんでは人ひとの手てのひらほどの大おおきさがあることがわかります

The diamond found weighs 2,492 carats, and photos released by the company show it is about the size of a person’s palm.

これまでで最もっとも大おおきいダイヤモンドの原石げんせきは、1905年ねんに現在げんざいの南アフリカみなみあふりかで見みつかり、イギリス王室おうしつの王冠おうかんにも使つかわれた3106カラットの「カリナン」で、ロイター通信ろいた-つうしんは、今回こんかい見みつかった原石げんせきが史上しじょう2番目ばんめになると伝つたえています

The largest rough diamond ever found was the 3,106-carat Cullinan, which was found in what is now South Africa in 1905 and was used in the British royal crown, and Reuters reports that it has become the second biggest rough diamond ever found.

ボツワナは世界せかい有数ゆうすうのダイヤモンド産出さんしゅつ国こくで、2019年ねんには今回こんかいと同おなじ鉱山こうざんから1758カラットの原石げんせきが発見はっけんされ、その後そのご高級こうきゅうブランド「ルイ・ヴィトン」に売却ばいきゃくされています
