A Japanese sword for the gods with a beautiful design on the blade.
In Setouchi in Okayama prefecture, swordmaker Kazuki Kawashima is making Japanese swords for the deity at a shrine.
This month, he demonstrated to everyone at the shrine the art of creating a beautiful pattern on the blade of a sword.
Then, while carefully inspecting the color of the reddened sword, he heated it to about 760°C.
After that, he plunges the sword into cool water which creates the sword’s curved shape and sets the handsome motif on the blade.
The onlookers applauded.

”I was able to gain strength from everybody watching, so I’m very pleased,” says Kawashima.
