Elementary school in Toyama Prefecture: One red snow crab per student for school lunch
Fishermen and other groups in Imizu City, Toyama Prefecture, feed red snow crabs they catch every fall to elementary schools.
We want children to be interested in crabs and other things that can be caught in their own town.
The children ate one red snow crab by themselves after being taught how to eat it by a member of the group.
子どもたちは団体の人に食べ方を教えてもらって、1人でベニズワイガニ1匹を食べました
The children said things like, ``It’s hard to peel the shell, but I’m happy to be able to eat crab,’’ and ``When I dipped it in the crab miso inside the crab, the flavor became stronger.’’
A member of the group said, ``I’m glad that they ate happily.’’
団体の人は「うれしそうに食べてくれてよかったです」と話しました
In Imizu City, red snow crab will be served in school lunches for about 750 sixth graders.
