アメリカのインターネット通販大手「アマゾン」は5日、ロボット掃除機「ルンバ」などを手掛けるアイロボットを買収すると発表しました。
買収額は負債を含めておよそ17億ドル、日本円でおよそ2300億円で全額現金で拠出するということです。
アマゾンは声明で「アイロボットとともに顧客の生活をより快適に、そして、より楽しくする方法で発明していくことに興奮している」と述べています。
世界各国の市場に受け入れられているアイロボットを買収することで今後、自社の家電事業の拡充を目指すとしています。
アイロボットのコリン・アングルCEOは買収後も引き続きCEOの職にとどまるということです。
