三菱電機はオーストラリア国防省と共同開発の契約を結んだと発表しました。
Mitsubishi Electric announced that it has signed a joint development agreement with the Australian Department of Defense.
防衛分野で日本企業と外国政府が直接契約したのは初めてです。　
This is the first time a Japanese company and a foreign government have signed a direct contract in the defense sector.
三菱電機によりますと、共同開発はオーストラリア軍の最先端技術をベースとし、三菱電機が持つレーザー技術を活用してオーストラリア軍の警戒・監視能力を高めるとしています。　
According to Mitsubishi Electric, the joint development will draw on advanced technology from the Australian military and use Mitsubishi Electric's laser technology to enhance the country's military's warning and surveillance capabilities.
防衛装備品については、これまでは防衛省を通じて開発に参画してきていて、民間企業と外国政府で共同開発の契約を結んだ初めてのケースとなります。　
So far, the company has participated in the development of defense equipment through the Ministry of National Defense, and this is the first time a private company and a foreign government have signed a joint development agreement.
防衛省は「両国の防衛装備、技術協力にとって象徴的な事例となる。我が国にとって新たな一歩となる」とのコメントを発表しています。
The Ministry of National Defense issued a comment saying: “This is an iconic example of defense technology and equipment cooperation between the two countries. This is a new step forward for our country.”
