フィリピン政府は、日本の支援を受けて首都マニラで進めている国内初の地下鉄の建設計画でトンネルを掘削する工事を始めました。　
The Philippine government began work to excavate tunnels for the country's first subway project, which is underway in the capital Manila with Japanese assistance.

掘削工事に使われる機械も、日本から持ち込まれたものだということです。

式典に出席したマルコス大統領は「日本政府が我が国のインフラ計画を積極的に支援してくれるパートナーであることに感謝します」などと述べました。　
President Marcos, who attended the ceremony, expressed his gratitude to the Japanese government for being an active partner in supporting country's infrastructure plans. 　
地下鉄は、ニノイ・アキノ国際空港を含む17駅でマニラを縦断します。　
The subway traverses Manila with 17 stations, including the Ninoy Aquino International Airport. 　
一日あたりおよそ52万人の利用が見込まれていて、交通渋滞の緩和が期待されています。
About 520,000 people are expected to use the system every day, which is expected to ease traffic congestion.
