元日の今日、天皇陛下は国民に向けたビデオメッセージを出し、コロナ禍の国民を案じるとともに医療関係者に感謝を述べられました。　
Today, the first day of the New Year, the Emperor sent a video message to the residents, expressed concern for the people about the corona epidemic as well as thanked the medical staff.
「皆が互いに思いやりを持って助け合い、支え合いながら、進んで行くことを心から願っています」　
"I hope everyone will help each other with kindness, support each other and move forward."
「今年が、皆様にとって少しでも穏やかな年となるよう心からお祈りいたします」　
"I hope this year will be a peaceful year for everyone."
ビデオメッセージは中止された新年一般参賀で例年述べるお言葉に代わるものとして出され、皇后・雅子さまもお言葉を述べられました。
The video message was given in place of the annual speech at the New Year's Eve ceremony that was canceled, and Queen Masako also said a few words.
陛下は医療現場の逼迫や感染拡大による失業者らを案じるとともに、医師や看護師らに敬意と感謝を示されました。
The Emperor expressed his concern about the urgent situation of the health sector, the fact that many people were unemployed due to the spread of the epidemic, and expressed respect and gratitude to the doctors and nurses.
そのうえで「今年が皆さんにとって希望を持って歩んでいくことのできる年になることを心から願います」と述べられました。
He then also said, "I hope this year will be a year where everyone can carry hope and move forward."
