今月2日、埼玉県行田市長野で下水道管の点検作業をしていた50代の作業員4人がマンホールの中に転落して死亡した事故では警察は、はじめに1人が転落し、助けようとした3人も次々に転落したとみて調べています。
On the 2nd of this month in Nagano, Gyoda City, Saitama Prefecture, four workers in their 50s who were inspecting a sewer pipe fell into a manhole and died. Police believe that one person fell in first, and the other three fell in one after another while trying to help.
この事故で警察が、4人の遺体を詳しく調べたところ最初に転落した作業員ともう1人は硫化水素のガスを吸ったことによる中毒が原因で、残る2人も硫化水素の中毒になったうえ、窒息したことが原因で死亡したとみられることが分かりました。
When the police closely examined the bodies of the four victims in this accident, they found that the first worker who fell and one other person died from poisoning caused by inhaling hydrogen sulfide gas, while the remaining two also suffered hydrogen sulfide poisoning and are believed to have died from asphyxiation.
現場で作業を行っていた会社の説明によりますと、最初に作業員がマンホールに入る際は硫化水素の濃度を測定する検知器の警報は鳴っていませんでしたが、4人が転落した直後には、安全に作業を行うため、法律で定められた基準の15倍を超える150ppm以上の濃度が、検知されたということです。
According to the explanation from the company that was working at the site, the alarm on the detector that measures hydrogen sulfide concentration did not go off when the first worker entered the manhole, but immediately after the four people fell, a concentration of over 150 ppm—more than 15 times the legal safety standard—was detected.
また、当時、4人はいずれも落下を防止するための器具や防護マスクを着けていない状態だったということです。

警察は硫化水素のガスが発生した状況や、作業の安全管理に問題がなかったか詳しく調べています。
