むかしむかし、さると、かにがいました。
Once upon a time, there was a monkey and a crab.

One day, the crab found a delicious-looking rice ball.

The monkey found a persimmon seed.
さるは「おにぎりと
交換してあげよう」と
言いました。
The monkey said, Ill trade it for a rice ball.

取りました。
And even though the crab said it didn’t need it, the monkey forcefully took the rice ball.

And then, he gave the persimmon seed to the crab.

帰りました。
Since there was nothing else he could do, the crab took the persimmon seed home.

種をまきました。
And then, I planted persimmon seeds.
かにが
歌うと、かきの
種は
どんどん大きくなって、
赤いかきが
たくさんできました。
When the crab sang, the persimmon seeds grew bigger and bigger, and many red persimmons were produced.
さるが
来て、
木に
登れないかにのために、かきを
取って
あげると
言いました。
The monkey came and said he would pick persimmons for the crab, who couldnt climb the tree.

始めました。
And then, the monkey climbed the tree and started eating the persimmons.

The crab waiting under the tree dropped a blue, hard oyster.

For the sake of the crab, the bee and the mortar decided to punish the monkey.

入って、かくれて
待っていました。
The bee mortar and others entered the monkeys house and hid, waiting.
さるが
帰ってくると、いろりの
中のくりが{はじ}けて、はちが
水がめから
出てきてさしました。
When the monkey came back, the chestnuts in the hearth had popped, and the bee came out of the water jar and stung.
さるは、ふんで
滑って
転んで、
屋根から
落ちてきたうすに{ぶつ}かりました。
The monkey slipped on poop, fell, and bumped into the mortar that had fallen from the roof.
さるは、
やっと逃げて
行きました。
The monkey finally ran away.
