The Turkish Football Federation TFF announced on the 27th that it had conducted a large-scale investigation of active referees based on data provided by government agencies.

According to the results, out of 571 referees active in the professional league, 371 owned accounts with multiple bookmakers, and of those, 152 were found to have actually placed bets on football matches.

According to the details of the investigation, out of the 152 people involved in gambling, 7 were senior referees, 15 were assistant referees, 36 were registered referees, and 94 were registered assistant referees.

In particular, ten referees had placed bets on over 10,000 soccer matches, and one of them had bet as many as 18,227 times.

Furthermore, 42 referees had each bet on more than 1,000 matches.

It has been confirmed that the majority of matches are being bet on in tournaments outside of Turkey.

Given this situation, the Disciplinary Committee will initiate the necessary procedures and will decide on the method of disciplinary action going forward.
