Typhoon No. 15 is currently over the sea near the southern part of the Kinki region and is expected to move eastward along the Pacific side through the 6th.

Due to the influence of moist air and fronts, heavy rain is intensifying in areas far from the center of the typhoon. Linear rainbands are forming in various regions from Shikoku to Tohoku, raising concerns about large total rainfall amounts. According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, Typhoon No. 15 made landfall near Sukumo City in Kochi Prefecture around 1 a.m. on the 5th, and is moving east over the sea near the southern Kinki region.

Typhoon No. 15 is believed to be moving east-northeast at about 25 kilometers per hour over the sea, approximately 70 kilometers west-southwest of Gobō City, Wakayama Prefecture, as of 8 a.m.

The central pressure is 1000 hectopascals, the maximum wind speed near the center is 18 meters per second, and the maximum instantaneous wind speed is 25 meters per second. Strong winds of 15 meters per second or more are blowing within 390 kilometers south and 165 kilometers north of the center.

In addition to the Kinki region, where the typhoon is approaching, thick rain clouds are also covering Tokai and Kanto, which are far from the center of the typhoon, and due to the influence of the front, the rain is intensifying in Tohoku as well.

Around Onagawa Town in Miyagi Prefecture, radar analysis indicates that about 100 millimeters of torrential rain fell in one hour until 4 a.m., and the Japan Meteorological Agency has issued a record-breaking short-term heavy rain information alert.

Due to the rain that has fallen so far, the risk of landslides has increased significantly, and there are areas in Miyagi and Iwate prefectures where landslide warnings have been issued.

Outlook: There is a risk that the typhoon will make landfall in the southern Kinki region. Furthermore, it is expected to pick up speed and move east along the southern coast of Tokai and Kanto through the 6th, and is forecast to become an extratropical cyclone by the morning of the 6th.

In addition to the Pacific side of western and eastern Japan, even in Tohoku near the front, there is a risk of extremely heavy rain of more than 50 millimeters per hour accompanied by thunder, and locally, there is a possibility of torrential rain exceeding 80 millimeters per hour.

In the Kanto-Koshin and Tokai regions, where particularly warm and humid air continues to flow in, rainfall is expected to increase.

If a linear precipitation zone occurs, there is a risk of even heavier rainfall in localized areas.

Be extremely cautious of landslides, flooding in low-lying areas, and rising or overflowing rivers. Also, be alert for lightning, tornadoes, violent gusts of wind, strong winds, and high waves.

Even in areas far from the typhoon, the rain is already getting heavier, and heavy rainfall is expected in the future.
