One night, a thief broke into the house.

He said to everyone in the house, Give me your money.

Everyone in the house was trembling with fear.

力士がやって
来ました。
Just then, a big sumo wrestler appeared.

行け」と

声で
言いました。
And then he shouted at the thief, Get out quickly!

逃げました。
The thief got scared and ran away.

ありがとう}ございます」と

頭を
下げると、
力士はいなくなっていました。
When everyone in the house bowed their heads and said thank you, the strongman disappeared.
あと、タヌキの
夫婦が
来ました。
After that, a pair of tanuki came and said, Thank you for always giving us food.

いつも食べ

ありがとうございます。
Tonights gathering is to express our gratitude to all of you.
のことは、
お礼です」と
言って、
森に
帰って
行きました。
When they finished speaking, they returned to the forest.

人は、
力士はタヌキだったと
分かりました。
Everyone in the family realized that the strong man was actually a tanuki raccoon dog.

家の
人はタヌキを
大切にしました。
Since then, they have always cherished the tanuki.
タヌキも
家に
ずっと住み
続けました。
And the tanuki continued to live in that house forever.
