A staff member in their 40s belonging to the Scientific Investigation Laboratory of the Saga Prefectural Police Headquarters is said to have engaged in inappropriate conduct, such as falsely reporting that an unperformed DNA analysis had been carried out. According to interviews with police officials, the police have decided to soon impose disciplinary action on this staff member.
警察関係者によりますと、佐賀県警察本部の科学捜査研究所に所属する40代の職員は、去年までの数年間に担当したDNA鑑定で、未実施の鑑定を実施したかのように装ってうその報告をしたり、鑑定に必要な資料を紛失したにもかかわらず、報告を怠ったりするなど、不適切な対応をしたということです。
According to police officials, a staff member in their 40s belonging to the Scientific Investigation Laboratory of the Saga Prefectural Police Headquarters engaged in inappropriate conduct during DNA analyses they were in charge of over the past several years until last year. This included submitting false reports as if analyses that were never actually conducted had been performed, as well as failing to report the loss of materials necessary for the analyses.
DNA鑑定は事件や事故の現場で採取された血痕や髪の毛を分析して容疑者や被害者のDNAの型と一致するかどうかなどを調べるもので、不適切な対応があった鑑定のなかには事件の証拠として使われたものも含まれているということです。
DNA analysis involves examining bloodstains or hair collected from crime or accident scenes to determine whether they match the DNA profiles of suspects or victims, and it is said that some analyses with improper handling have even been used as evidence in cases.
警察関係者によりますと、ほかの職員からの情報を元に行われた内部調査に対し、職員はこれらの行為を認めているということで、警察は近く、懲戒処分にする方針を固めたということです。
According to police officials, the employee has admitted to these actions in an internal investigation based on information from other staff members, and the police have decided to take disciplinary action soon.
DNA鑑定で不適切な対応をしたとして科学捜査研究所の職員が、懲戒処分を受けるのは異例です。
It is unusual for an employee of the forensic science laboratory to receive disciplinary action for inappropriate conduct in DNA testing.
