The World Athletics Championships being held in Tokyo featured the mens marathon on the 15th, where Ryota Kondo, competing for the first time, finished as the top Japanese runner in 11th place.

The 25-year-old athlete Kondo made his debut at the World Championships after setting the fifth fastest time ever by a Japanese runner and breaking the national record for a first marathon at the Osaka Marathon this February.
