Approximately 2.5 cm in length, a new chameleon found
アフリカ東部沖のマダガスカル島で、体長２．５センチに満たない小型のカメレオンが発見されました
A small chameleon less than 2.5 cm in length was found on Madagascar Island off the coast of eastern Africa.
The new chameleon named ”Nana Himekameleon (Nano Chameleon)” is the world’s smallest reptile.
It seems that the existence was not even known until 2012.
Unlike other vertebral animals and other types of chameleons, it does not change color and lives primarily on the ground rather than on trees.
Most reptiles are larger than females in males, except for nano chameleons.
Males were about 2 cm long, while females were 2.89 cm.
It seems that the female is larger because it holds an egg.
Large-scale deforestation is taking place in the habitat of the Solata area of Madagascar, and the nano chameleon seems to be in serious danger of extinction.
