“Soot cleaning” at Hikone Castle: Cleaning up this year’s dirt
Hikone Castle, located in Hikone City, Shiga Prefecture, is a castle that is a national treasure.
On the 6th, we did a ”soot cleaning” to clean away the year’s dirt.
People from the castle’s management center climbed the 21m tall castle tower.
Then I put my body out the window with a rope attached to it so it wouldn’t fall, and cleaned the walls with a long broom.
According to the management center, about 650,000 people will come to Hikone Castle this year as tourists, which is expected to return to about 90% of the number before the spread of the new coronavirus.
A person at the management center said, ``I hope more people will come to Hikone Castle next year, now that it’s beautiful.’’
