40% of global jobs could be wiped out by AI IMF

These trends are likely to exacerbate inequality.

In a blog post on Monday, IMF Managing Director Georgieva called on governments to counter the impact of AI by building social safety nets and offering re-education programs.

The post was published ahead of the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF), which will be held from the 15th in Davos, Switzerland.

These impacts are likely to be felt more acutely in developed economies than in emerging markets.
One reason for this is that office workers are seen to be at greater risk than manual workers.
Similar warnings have been issued by other experts in the past.

For example, in more developed countries, up to 60% of jobs could be affected by AI.
