昔、広島県の三田峠に、お婆さんが一人で住んでいました

お坊さんはお婆さんの親切に感動して、「この管(くだ)からは、いつまでも糸が出ます

それから、お婆さんが糸を使っても、糸はなくなりませんでした

大晦日、もう少しで着物が出来るところで、お婆さんは「この管の中はどうなっているのだろう」と思い、管を見たり触ったりしました

お婆さんは外で、雪の中、わくくりを使って糸を作り始めました

朝になり、庄屋さんが来ると、お婆さんは大きな岩の上で、わくくりを持ったまま亡くなっていました

それから毎年、大晦日の夜になると、その岩からわくくりの音が聞こえるようになりました
