アタカマ砂漠は数年に一度、春の季節性の大雨で乾燥に強い200種類もの種や球根が一斉に開花することから「砂漠の花畑」として有名です。

生物の専門家は「今回、花が咲いた地域は限定的で、偶然が重なったための現象で『砂漠の花畑』が始まったとは言い切れない」としています。
