宇宙関連のビジネスが急拡大するなか、大手通信会社が月面でのモバイル通信を可能にする計画を発表しました。
「月が非常に今、世界中でもホットな話題になってきていますが、ゆくゆくは月面での5G、あるいは通信環境を整備していきたい」
宇宙事業への本格参入を発表したKDDIは、宇宙ビジネスの発展や宇宙での研究開発を活発化させるため2028年をめどに月と地球の間の通信を構築します。
さらに2030年には月面に基地局を設置し、より高速な通信環境を整備することで探査用の車両などを遠隔操作したり、取得したデータを簡単に送受信できるようになるということです。
同時に、宇宙事業に取り組むスタートアップの積極的な支援も始め、通信以外の分野でもビジネスチャンスを開拓していく狙いです。
宇宙市場は2040年にはおよそ150兆円規模になると見込まれています。
