日本円で約170万円で競り落とされた氷山の写真はタイタニック号の衝突2日前に付近を航行していた別の旅客船の船長が撮影したものです。
船長は事故後、親族に「タイタニック号を沈めた氷山の写真です」という手紙を添えて送り、今回は手紙も一緒に出品されました。
タイタニック号が衝突する直前の氷山の写真が見つかるのは世界で初めてで、落札額の行方に注目が集まっていました。
