In response to the results of the House of Councillors election, there continues to be movement calling for Prime Minister Ishiba’s resignation.

The Nara Prefectural Federation of the Liberal Democratic Party has submitted a written opinion calling for a reshuffling of the party leadership, including Prime Minister Ishiba. In addition, within the LDP, there is a growing movement demanding the convening of the General Assembly of Both Houses of Representatives, which is the partys highest decision-making body after the party convention.

In response to this, Masanori Iioka, Secretary-General of the Liberal Democratic Partys Nara Prefectural Federation, held a press conference and revealed that on the 23rd, he had mailed a written opinion to party headquarters requesting a reshuffle of the party leadership.

The written opinion states, The House of Councillors election was a battle in a very tough situation, and one of the reasons our party was fiercely pursued by candidates from other parties is that the trust of the prefectural citizens in our party was shaken.

On top of that, it states, It is essential to sincerely accept the judgment of the people, listen to their voices, and have party members unite and devote themselves to party management. In order to regain the trust of the public from this critical situation, I hope that each executive will make bold decisions to reform the party, thus calling for the resignation of Prime Minister Ishiba and the party leadership.

Secretary-General Ioka said, Following Prime Minister Ishibas statement that he will remain in office, we have received numerous calls from party members in the prefecture demanding the resignation of the party president.

I hope the renewed executive team will run the administration with a clear sense of purpose.

In addition to the former Motegi faction, from the 24th, mid-level and younger members of the former Abe and Nikai factions have been gathering signatures for a resolution stating, We call for the prompt convening of a joint plenary meeting of both houses to hold those responsible for the House of Councillors election results accountable and to revitalize the party.

According to the party rules, if a request is made by at least one-third of the members of parliament, a joint general meeting of both houses must be convened within seven days. The younger members and others plan to submit the necessary signatures to the party leadership as soon as they have been collected.

Also, within the party, there are voices calling for the leadership election, which is scheduled to be held the year after next, to be moved up.

Prime Minister Ishiba: I want to take this seriously and sincerely. On the afternoon of the 24th, Prime Minister Ishiba held a meeting for about 30 minutes at the Prime Ministers Office with Mr. Muneo Suzuki of the Liberal Democratic Party, who was elected in the proportional representation of the House of Councillors election.

Also, regarding the movement within the party calling for Prime Minister Ishibas resignation, Prime Minister Ishiba calmly said, This is a democracy, so its fine for there to be various opinions.

In my experience, its always the ones who lose the election that complain, but they should really reflect on whether they and everyone involved, including the candidate, truly did their best.
