Typhoon No. 9 is expected to approach the Izu Islands on the 1st, and there is a possibility that it will approach the Kanto region with strong winds on the 2nd.

The Japan Meteorological Agency is urging people to be on alert for high waves and to exercise caution against landslides and other disasters caused by heavy rain.

According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, Typhoon No. 9 is moving north-northwest at a speed of 15 kilometers per hour over the sea, 220 kilometers east-southeast of Hachijojima in the Izu Islands.

As of 6 a.m., the central pressure is 980 hectopascals, the maximum wind speed near the center is 25 meters per second, and the maximum instantaneous wind speed is 35 meters per second. Strong winds of 15 meters per second or more are blowing within a radius of 280 kilometers from the center.

The typhoon is expected to strengthen as it moves north, approach the Izu Islands on the 1st, and come closest to the Kanto region with strong winds from late night to early morning on the 2nd.

Very strong winds are expected to blow over the Izu Islands and the Kanto region through the 2nd. On the 1st, the maximum wind speed is forecast to be 23 meters per second both over the seas of Kanto and the Izu Islands, with maximum instantaneous wind speeds expected to reach 35 meters per second in both areas. Caution against violent winds is necessary.

It is expected to be very rough at sea with swells, and the wave height on the 1st is forecast to reach 6 meters in the Izu Islands and Kanto region.

In addition, there is a risk of heavy rain in the Izu Islands and the Kanto region through the 2nd, and some areas are expected to experience torrential downpours.

The amount of rainfall expected in the 24 hours up to the morning of the 2nd is predicted to be up to 100 millimeters in both the Izu Islands and the Kanto region.

The Japan Meteorological Agency is warning people to be on alert for high waves and to take extra precautions against landslides caused by heavy rain, flooding of low-lying areas, and rising river levels.
