2日午前9時ごろ、行田市長野で下水道管の点検作業をしていた、いずれも50代の男性作業員4人がマンホールの中に転落し、その後、全員の死亡が確認されました
Around 9 a.m. on the 2nd, four male workers in their 50s who were inspecting a sewer pipe in Nagano, Gyoda City, fell into a manhole, and later, all were confirmed dead.
マンホールの穴は直径が60センチ、深さは10メートル以上あり、1人がマンホールの中に転落し、助けようとしたほかの3人も次々と転落したとみられています
The manhole has a diameter of 60 centimeters and a depth of over 10 meters. It is believed that one person fell into the manhole, and the other three people who tried to help also fell in one after another.
転落は点検作業の開始から30分ほどの間に連続したとみられ、通報を受けて駆けつけた消防隊員が調べたところ、マンホールの内部で硫化水素が検出されていたことが消防への取材で分かりました

作業員は有毒なガスなどを吸い込んで転落した可能性もあり、警察と消防は現場にいたほかの人たちから詳しい状況を聞き取るなどして、事故の原因を調べています

今回事故が起きた作業は埼玉県八潮市の大規模な道路陥没を受けた緊急点検の一環で、2日は下水道管の内部の清掃を予定していました
