昔、岐阜県の坂下という村に「のう」という大きな化け物がいました。
Once upon a time, there was a big monster called Nou in Sakashita Village, Gifu Prefecture.

It is said that Noh drinks a lot of water from the Kiso River, but no one really knows its true form.

In years when there was a big typhoon, the villagers would whisper to each other, The Nou is rampaging.
。
To appease the Nō, they had to offer the most beautiful girl in the village.
。
One year, a big storm came again.
。
However, only a girl named Tsuyu remained in the village.
。
Tsuyu was not beautiful, but she willingly went to Noh for the sake of the villagers.
。
Mother and the villagers tried to stop her, but Tsuyu still climbed the mountain alone.
。
At the top of the mountain, Nō appeared and was very happy to see Tsuyu.
。
I was really scared, but Tsuyu pleaded, If youre going to eat me, please dont struggle anymore.
。
Noh said, Youre a very cute girl, and treated Tsuyu very kindly.
。
The next morning, Tsuyu and the other girls who had previously been offered to Nou returned to the village.
。
The villagers are very happy.
。
The rainy season said, Nō said that if a girl like me had come from the beginning, he wouldnt have become rebellious.
。
So, I asked Nō to give back the girls he had eaten before.
。
Since then, Nō stopped rebelling, and even when he occasionally came to the village, just a glare from Tsuyu was enough to make him behave.
。
Later, Noh left behind a large footprint and went somewhere, and that footprint became a pond.
。
The villagers call that pond the Pond of Agriculture.
