According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, warm and humid air is flowing toward a front extending from a low-pressure system, resulting in record-breaking heavy rain in Kagoshima Prefecture, including the formation of a linear rainband shortly after 1 a.m. and just before 5 a.m. on the 8th, prompting the issuance of significant heavy rain information. The agency has also issued a special heavy rain warning for Kirishima City in Kagoshima Prefecture.

The forecast for future rain is that the front will continue to linger near Kyushu, so there is a risk of very heavy rain accompanied by thunder in southern and northern Kyushu through the 10th.

The amount of rainfall expected in the 24 hours up to the morning of the 9th is 200 millimeters in southern Kyushu and 120 millimeters in northern Kyushu.

Especially in Kagoshima Prefecture, excluding Miyazaki Prefecture and the Amami region, there is a possibility that a linear rainband will form in the next few hours, rapidly increasing the risk of disasters.

After that, the front is expected to remain stalled near Kyushu, with continued rainfall increasing the total precipitation. In southern and northern Kyushu, an additional 150 millimeters of rain is expected in the 24 hours up to the morning of the 10th.
