The family of Hideaki Takeuchi, a former Hyogo Prefectural Assembly member who served on the Hyogo Prefectural Governor Saito’s special investigation committee and died by suicide this January, has filed a criminal complaint with the police on suspicion of defamation. They claim that Takashi Tachibana, leader of the political group NHK Party, damaged the former assembly member’s reputation through remarks made during street speeches, videos distributed on the internet, and posts on social media.

According to investigative sources, the police have accepted the complaint.

Former Hyogo Prefectural Assembly member Hideaki Takeuchi served as a member of the special investigative committee that examined documents accusing Governor Saito of suspected power harassment, but was found to have committed suicide at his home this January.

The wife of the former lawmaker held a press conference in Kobe City on the 8th and revealed that she had filed a criminal complaint with the police in June this year against Mr. Takashi Tachibana, the leader of the political group NHK Party, on suspicion of defamation.

According to the complaint, Mr. Tachibana made statements about the former legislator in a street speech last December, saying things like He is being questioned by the police. The day after the former legislator died, he also posted on social media that He had been voluntarily questioned by the prefectural police, and stated in a video distributed online that Apparently, he was going to be arrested. The complaint claims that these false statements and posts damaged the former legislators reputation.

After the former lawmakers death, the then-chief of the Hyogo Prefectural Police Headquarters stated, We have never conducted a voluntary investigation of the former lawmaker as a suspect, let alone discussed anything like making an arrest.

He denied it, saying, There is absolutely no truth to it.
