A special exhibition introducing materials revealed by the latest research on the actual damage caused by the Tokyo air raids 80 years ago is being held in Sumida Ward, Tokyo.
1945年3月10日、アメリカ軍による空襲で、東京は下町を中心に壊滅的な被害を受け、およそ10万人が犠牲となりましたが、被害の正確な実態は戦後80年となる現在も十分には解明されていません。
On March 10, 1945, a U.S. air raid caused devastating damage to Tokyo, especially in the downtown area, resulting in the loss of approximately 100,000 lives. However, even now, 80 years after the war, the full extent of the damage has not been completely clarified.
墨田区の「すみだ郷土文化資料館」では資料の収集や分析を続けていて、今回、新たな焼失範囲を反映した地図や被害状況を撮影した「国防写真隊」の資料など、およそ80点を紹介する企画展を開いています。
At the Sumida Local Culture Museum in Sumida Ward, they continue to collect and analyze materials, and this time they are holding a special exhibition introducing about 80 items, including maps reflecting the newly identified burned areas and materials from the National Defense Photography Team that photographed the damage situation.
この中では、空襲で被害を受けた企業が保管していた当時の工場の地図や、消火活動について記した日誌などから、詳細な焼失範囲を新たに特定したことが紹介されています。
In this section, it is explained that, based on maps of factories stored by companies that suffered damage in air raids and diaries describing firefighting activities, the precise areas that were burned have been newly identified.
学芸員の石橋星志さんは「焼失範囲や延焼の広がり方など詳細な状況が分かれば、体験者の証言をより正確に理解することができる。
Curator Seishi Ishibashi said, If we can understand details such as the extent of the burned area and how the fire spread, we will be able to understand the testimonies of those who experienced it more accurately.

The speaker said, Although the people who experienced it are now elderly, we will continue our efforts to clarify the damage caused by the war, using all available materials and resources.
