According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, on the 17th, it is expected to be sunny and temperatures will rise in many areas from Kyushu to Tohoku as they will be covered by a high-pressure system.

Daytime high temperatures are expected to reach a dangerous 38 degrees in Maebashi City and Kumagaya City in Saitama Prefecture; 37 degrees in Gifu City, Toyama City, and Yamaguchi City; 36 degrees in Sendai City, Nagoya City, Kyoto City, Okayama City, Takamatsu City, and other locations; and 35 degrees in central Tokyo, Osaka City, Kurume City in Fukuoka Prefecture, and various other places, with extremely intense heat expected across the country.

A heatstroke alert has been issued for 26 prefectures across the country, from Kyushu to Tohoku, as the risk of heatstroke is extremely high.

Please take thorough measures against heatstroke, such as using air conditioning properly and replenishing water and salt.

Also, on the 17th, severe heat is expected in the areas affected by heavy rain, including Kumamoto City. When cleaning up and doing other tasks, it is important to take frequent breaks and to check in with those around you to make sure no one is feeling unwell.

Hokkaido and the Sea of Japan side of the Tohoku region may experience heavy rain. Meanwhile, due to a front extending from a low-pressure system passing near Hokkaido, the atmosphere over northern Japan is expected to become very unstable on the 17th, leading to the development of rain clouds.

It is already raining heavily in Hokkaido, and in Teshio Town, Hokkaido, 55 millimeters of rain fell in the one hour up to 6:30 a.m.

Very heavy rain of 5 millimeters is falling.

On the 17th, both Hokkaido and Tohoku are expected to experience very heavy rain, with up to 50 millimeters per hour accompanied by thunder in some areas.

Rainfall is expected to increase mainly along the Sea of Japan side, and in Hokkaido, there are areas where landslide warning information has been issued, so strict caution is necessary.

In Hokkaido, up to 120 millimeters of rain is expected to fall in the 24 hours until the morning of the 18th.

The Japan Meteorological Agency is urging people to be on alert for landslides, flooding in low-lying areas, and rising river levels, as well as to watch out for severe gusts such as tornadoes, lightning strikes, and hail.
