On the 14th of this month, a man who was climbing Mount Rausu in Shari Town, Hokkaido, was attacked by a brown bear and was later found dead. The Hokkaido Research Organization has been conducting DNA analysis on three brown bears—a mother and her cubs—that were culled near the man.

On the other hand, since the DNA did not match that of the two cubs and no hair or other evidence from other bears was found on the mans clothing, the authorities concluded that the mother brown bear attacked the man.

羅臼岳の
登山道周辺を
対象に
出しているヒグマ
注意報を
継続し、
登山道の
閉鎖を
続けることになりました。
Additionally, as a result of discussions with Shari Town and Rausu Town, the prefecture has decided to continue the bear warning issued for the area around the Rausu-dake hiking trail and to keep the trail closed.
