The third quarterfinal game of the National High School Baseball Championship in summer saw Gifu Prefectural Commercial High School defeat Yokohama High School of Kanagawa, who were aiming for consecutive spring and summer championships, with a walk-off win in the 11th inning tiebreaker, 8-7, advancing to the semifinals for the first time in 16 years.

Gifu Prefectural Commercial High School took the lead in the first inning with a timely double by the third batter, Genta Uchiyama. They added more runs with timely hits in the fourth and fifth innings, extending their lead to 4-0.

Yokohama scored three runs in the sixth inning with a timely hit by the sixth batter, Seima Ikeda, and caught up in the eighth inning due to an opponents error.

The game went into extra innings with a tiebreaker, starting with no outs and runners on first and second base, still tied at 4-4.

In the 10th inning of extra innings, Yokohama scored 3 runs, but in the bottom of the inning, Gifu Prefectural Commercial High School tied the game when the sixth batter, Ryoya Koyari, hit a bases-clearing double with no outs and the bases loaded.

In the 11th inning, with the score tied at 7-7 and runners on first and third with two outs, Gifu Prefectural Commercial High Schools cleanup hitter, Roho Sakaguchi, hit a walk-off single to left field. Gifu Prefectural Commercial High School won 8-7 and advanced to the semifinals for the first time in 16 years.

Since 1998, Yokohama was aiming for their second spring-summer championship in 27 years. In the later innings, especially from the middle of the fifth when relief pitcher Yorito Okumura came in, they repeatedly escaped tough situations with excellent defense, such as using a five-man infield shift to put pressure on the opponent and prevent a squeeze bunt in a walk-off crisis. However, they ultimately ran out of strength and were eliminated in the quarterfinals.
