発表しました。
Professional Go player and holder of the record for the oldest official match, 98-year-old 8-dan Toshiko Sugiuchi, has announced her retirement.
日本棋院は19日、現役最年長のプロの囲碁棋士で、98歳の杉内寿子八段が20日で引退すると発表しました。
The Nihon Ki-in announced on the 19th that Toshiko Sugiuchi, an 8-dan professional Go player and the oldest active professional at 98 years old, will retire on the 20th.
杉内八段は静岡県出身で、1942年にプロ棋士となり、1953年、現在の「女流本因坊戦」にあたる「女流選手権」で初めてタイトルを獲得しました。
Sugiuchi 8-dan is from Shizuoka Prefecture and became a professional Go player in 1942. In 1953, she won her first title in the Womens Championship, which is now known as the Womens Honinbo Tournament.
その後も「女流名人戦」で4連覇を果たすなど、女流のタイトルを通算で10期獲得しました。
After that, she went on to win the Womens Meijin title for four consecutive years, and in total, she has won ten womens titles.
90歳を過ぎても対局を続け、去年4月には夫の杉内雅男九段の持つ、最年長での対局記録を更新し、最終的に98歳4か月4日の記録を持っています。
Even after turning 90, she continued to play matches, and in April last year, she broke the record for the oldest player to compete, previously held by her husband, 9-dan Masao Sugiuchi. In the end, she set the record at 98 years, 4 months, and 4 days.
杉内八段は、ことし6月と7月に行われた2つの対局を体調不良を理由に欠席していて、日本棋院によりますと、長時間の対局が体力的に難しくなったため引退を決めたということです。
8-dan Sugiuchi was absent from two matches held in June and July this year due to health reasons, and according to the Japan Go Association, he decided to retire because long matches had become physically difficult for him.
生涯での通算成績は635勝970敗、引き分けが6局でした。
His career record was 635 wins, 970 losses, and 6 draws.
また、引退に伴い21日、女性では初めて九段に昇段するということです。
Also, with her retirement on the 21st, she will become the first woman to be promoted to 9-dan.
杉内八段は「『碁は芸道にして一生の修行』を信条に今日まで励んで参りましたが、6時間休憩なしの対局は、これ以上無理と判断いたしました。
8-dan Sugiuchi said, I have devoted myself until today with the belief that Go is an art and a lifelong practice, but I have decided that it is no longer possible for me to play matches of six hours without a break.
