On the 18th of this month, in a fire that burned two neighboring buildings—a seven-story and a six-story one—facing Dotonbori in Chuo Ward, Osaka, a 55-year-old squad leader and a 22-year-old firefighter from the Osaka City Fire Department died while checking inside the buildings to see if anyone had been left behind.
