The fire that broke out in two adjacent buildings facing Dotonbori in Minami, Osaka, resulting in the deaths of two firefighters, was found to have burned especially intensely near the outdoor unit of the air conditioner installed in the six-story building on the west side, according to interviews with investigators.

今月18日、大阪・中央区の道頓堀に面した7階建てと6階建ての東西に隣り合うビルが焼けた火事では、逃げ遅れた人がいないかビル内を確認するなどしていた大阪市消防局の55歳の小隊長と22歳の隊員が死亡しました。
On the 18th of this month, in a fire that burned two neighboring buildings—a seven-story and a six-story one—facing Dotonbori in Chuo Ward, Osaka, a 55-year-old squad leader and a 22-year-old firefighter from the Osaka City Fire Department died while checking inside the buildings to see if anyone had been left behind.
これまでの調べで西側の6階建てのビルの低層階に焼け方が激しい部分があり、警察はこの付近が火元とみていますが、その後の捜査関係者への取材で1階の南側に設置されていたエアコンの室外機付近の焼け方が特に激しかったことが分かりました。
In the course of the investigation so far, it was found that the lower floors of the six-story building on the west side were severely burned, and the police believe that the fire started in this area. Subsequent interviews with investigators revealed that the area around the outdoor unit of the air conditioner installed on the south side of the first floor was particularly badly burned.
