As adjustments are being made for a summit meeting between the leaders of Russia and Ukraine regarding the situation in Ukraine, U.S. President Trump expressed the view that a direction could be indicated within two weeks as to whether peace will be achieved in the region.
ウクライナ情勢をめぐっては、ロシアのプーチン大統領とウクライナのゼレンスキー大統領による直接会談に向けて、アメリカやヨーロッパ各国も交えて調整が進められていますが、ロシア側はみずからの立場を尊重するよう牽制を続けています。
Regarding the situation in Ukraine, arrangements are being made for a direct meeting between Russian President Putin and Ukrainian President Zelensky, with the involvement of the United States and various European countries. However, Russia continues to insist that its own position be respected.
こうしたなか、アメリカのトランプ大統領は21日、キリスト教系のラジオ番組に出演し、ウクライナ情勢について「この地域に平和はもたらされるのか」と質問されたのに対し、「どうなるかは2週間以内に答えられると思う。
In this context, on the 21st, U.S. President Trump appeared on a Christian radio program, and when asked about the situation in Ukraine—specifically, Will peace come to this region?—he responded, I think I’ll be able to answer that within two weeks.

一方、トランプ大統領は、みずからのSNSに、先にアラスカ州で行ったプーチン大統領との会談の際に撮影された、人差し指をプーチン大統領の胸元に突きつけている写真を投稿しました。
On the other hand, President Trump posted on his own social media a photo taken during his earlier meeting with President Putin in Alaska, showing him pointing his index finger at President Putins chest.
写真についての説明はありませんが、冷戦のさなかに当時のニクソン副大統領が旧ソビエトの指導者フルシチョフに対して同じようなしぐさをとった写真と並べて投稿していることから、欧米メディアは、「ロシア寄りだ」とされる批判への反論だとの見方も伝えています。
There is no explanation about the photo, but since it was posted alongside a photo of then-Vice President Nixon making a similar gesture toward Soviet leader Khrushchev during the Cold War, Western media are also reporting that this could be seen as a rebuttal to criticisms of being pro-Russian.
