The Liberal Democratic Party is set to decide as early as early next month whether to hold an extraordinary presidential election.

Since it will be carried out if requested by a majority of both the Diet members and the 47 prefectural chapters, it is expected that maneuvering within the party will become more active in the future.

On the 27th, the Liberal Democratic Party held a meeting of the Presidential Election Management Committee and decided on the procedures to determine whether or not to hold an extraordinary presidential election.

Members of the Diet who request implementation are, in principle, required to personally submit a signed and sealed document, and the names of the members will also be made public.

If a prefectural federation requests implementation, it has been decided that they must make a formal organizational decision and then notify the party headquarters.

From now on, if the partys review of the House of Councillors election is formally finalized at the General Assembly of Both Houses to be held as early as the 2nd of next month, it is expected that Diet members will submit their documents on the 8th of the following week, and the tally, including submissions from the prefectural chapters, will be conducted on the same day.

As a result, if the total number of 295 members of the Diet and the 47 prefectural chapters reaches a majority, which is 172, an extraordinary presidential election will be held.

Chairman Aizawa of the Election Management Committee stated that the handling of lawmakers names became a point of discussion, and said, There was an opinion that making the names public would increase trust in the party, so we ultimately decided to disclose them.

Prior to this, mid-level lawmakers who are critical of Prime Minister Ishiba’s continuation in office confirmed that they would step up their efforts to secure the majority needed to hold the party leadership election.

On the other hand, various opinion polls show that a large proportion of people believe Prime Minister Ishiba does not need to resign, and next month, personnel appointments for the party leadership and other matters are scheduled.

For this reason, some within the party believe that disclosing the names of lawmakers who have called for the leadership election may influence the decisions of those lawmakers who are still undecided.

In addition, some lawmakers who support Prime Minister Ishibas continuation have voiced opinions such as, If a party leadership election is to be held, Prime Minister Ishiba should dissolve the House of Representatives and seek a mandate from the people. It is expected that maneuvering within the party will become more active going forward.
