Two years have passed since the discharge of treated water from the TEPCO Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant into the sea began. Prime Minister Ishiba instructed the relevant cabinet ministers to steadily promote the dissemination of information based on scientific evidence and support for the fisheries industry in order to dispel anxieties and concerns associated with the discharge.

Prime Minister Ishiba pointed out at a meeting of relevant cabinet ministers held at the Prime Minister’s Office on the morning of the 26th regarding the release of treated water and decommissioning of the plant, “In June, there was some progress, such as China lifting import restrictions on marine products from certain regions, but as import restrictions still remain, it is necessary for the government to continue working together toward their removal.”

On top of that, he instructed the relevant ministers to steadily promote measures such as providing information based on scientific evidence and supporting the fisheries industry, in order to dispel concerns and anxieties related to the release of the treated water.

He also instructed to introduce new technologies to advance the decommissioning, to work on human resource development in cooperation with the local community, and to promote the safe and secure return of residents.

Furthermore, TEPCO was urged to make thorough preparations to secure the necessary funds and establish systems for decommissioning and compensation, as well as to concretely formulate methods for the full-scale removal of fuel debris.

And There can be no recovery for Tohoku without the recovery of Fukushima.

Without the reconstruction of Tohoku, there will be no revival of Japan.

With the belief that all cabinet ministers are Ministers for Reconstruction, I want the government to take the lead and work towards the safe and steady decommissioning of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant and the reconstruction of Fukushima.
